Am planning to upgrade my motherboard & processor in a few weeks time. After doing some reading online, I've finally narrowed down my search to the ASUS A8N-VM CSM motherboard & AMD Athlon 64 3200+ (Socket 939) processor. Being a casual gamer, I decided to go with the integrated graphics solution from ASUS.

Now, will I able to connect the following to my new mobo.

1. Sony DVD-ROM (DDU1621)
2. BenQ DVD Writer (DW1640)
3. 1 X 160 GB ATA (IDE) Hard Drive
4. 1 X 80 GB ATA (IDE) Hard Drive

Any suggestions or comments are most welcome.

These all sound like ATA-IDE devices so you should have no problems. 4 peripherals - 1 primary master, 1 primary slave, 1 secondary master and 1 secondary slave. Make sure to get the jumper settins right Smile

Thanks jaskirat..
Computer parts are getting really cheap these days. I remember when I went to upgrade my hard drive & asked ki how much discount will I get if i exchange my old 80 gig with the 160 one.. and the vendor said.. "hojayega, 1200-1300 off... " n i was like what the hell, 2 yrs back 80 gigs was 4700 bucks and now... a new one costs 2.4k... So, finally decided to keep the ol one too..

Anyways, read some reviews online, and as it comes out, the MSI board K8NGM2-FID outperforms the ASUS mobo in almost all departments. No BIOS issues, extra cooling for the southbridge. Really a good solid board.

Most probably, I'll be upgrading RAM too.
Any recos. for which brand to buy.. ?

That is one cool combo that you are getting. Smile
MSI has come out with excellent boards recently but availablilty can be a problem in Chandigarh. Check them out at Rashi Peripherals.
For the processor, you must insist for a Venice core, because AMD introduced SSE3 instructions with that. Vendors & sometimes buyers ignore this important aspect.

For RAM, I will personally recommend Corsair or Kingston.
Corsair is a very good brand but again availability is limited. So go for Kingston. I bought 1 gig DDR400 from Jetage for about 5.3 k's.

AMD is the future.

Hey welcome back invinci.
Thanks for the reco., I would have gone with Transcend RAM otherwise.
And yea, dunno if its this years's budget but, Kingston 1 Gb DDR400 costs 4.4k now. Wink.
