Just found out.. AMD is launching 4 Athlon 64 bit dual-core processors today, a few days after Intel announced their launch. However, the AMD processors are priced much higher than the Intel counterparts. AMD claims to be using better technology, and promising better performance. Intel has priced it's processors from $ 241 to $ 530, whereas AMD indicates prices to be around $ 1000. Pretty steep, huh?

The main benefit of the dual-core technology being used is less power consumption, less heating, and better performance. So, all the game buffs, get ready for a new revolution!!

what is the basic purpose of dual core , sir?

Same as virus scan and a game running simultaneously.

@ smitz

That's just a small part of it.

Basically in a dual core, two processors reside side by side, generally on the same motherboard. So, the OS has enough resources to handle intensive tasks in parallel.

Hence, you can run games, virus scans, CD burners et al simultaneously.

That's a layman's view of things. In case anyone has any more stuff to enlighten me with, kripya hamaare gyaan ko badhaaiye..Smile

The dual core boards Confused
hey man these things do not exists .
in the dual core processors the 2 cores are there in the same processor.. lying parellely.. anyways boardds that support 2 processors or more exists.. but that does not means that they are dual core boards

i think you gonna upgrade yourself..
the basic meaning of the dual core processor is two layer processing...
that is:

anyways it will be very lenghty for me to explain the whole thing... for the detalis about dual core (ie 2 cores) or multicore processing chck out intel or amd site..
they have explained the basic difference between the single core, ht, and dual core processing....
