Hi firebolt
Welcome to pecobians and this forum

First of all the confusions in ur mind have to be put to rest and that is possible only if u lay in front of you a list of all u want to do on ur computer.

1. U being a mechie, u have to be involved in cad and other designing stuff. Also u sed u wanna game heavily on it. (Typical MEchie stuff!) Go in for RAM higher than u expect u'll be using.

2. For heavy graphics and fer them, using future programs, that will be 64 bit in not a lotta time, XP64 is gonna be better.

3.Go in fer an ASUS mboard it's got 32 mb of unshared video memory onboard. None other has fully dedicated memory.

4.Since u r not, as i think, be on the move while u require ur comp,, laptop will only add to ur troubles, u know, 24x read speed, battery life etc....Unless of course u don't wanna waste space!!!!

5. i don't think a TFT is a necessity, a crt with a flat screen can give almost as good a display.

6. Wireless kit? Go fer it only if u need it. Think bout it. The Kboard wire length is usually enough!

7. And fer all u save from gettin' down 4m a TFT to a CRT, and Wireless to wired, Go in fer a gooood VideoCard.

Long live PECobians indeed!

BTW this could have been in continuation with a previous topic already on this forum. Be careful, the next time!

I would suggest that if you plan to spend a lot of time on the comp (say abt more than 2 hrs daily) at a stretch, buy a desktop... I am spking purely from the health point of view.. i.e. a desktop wud b good for ur wrists... ya fir get a laptop but buy a bade vaala keyboard to use when you are working for long...

Exactly what I have done Big Grin (bought a Logitech MX DUO Wireless kbd/mouse combo)

But smitz, if u r planning to get the laptop from india only, its gonna cost u much much more than the desktop, so do take the price factor in consideration...

Absolutely!! I know a few people who ended up buying laptops just for the "style maaro" factor, but they're rather unhappy now...

Now, when i try to copy a file onto it, there is a message saying i don't have the required rights to do it!!!!

Any goaround this???
