That's what i read on the board welcoming us to the college when i see it in my dreams......

1. 80 pc attendance mandatory (and everybody means business here, now)
2. College starts at 8 in the morning
3. no choice in sessionals/final exams
4. sessionals to end in 3 days flat, finals in 6
5. All this but no reduction in syllabus

The only good thing i can find in the new schedule and rules is the assignment of projects...... makes us look and act pro

hell, there would have been no fuss about the elimination of choice if we had something going in our favour..........maybe introduction of grading system like for the 1st yearites or maybe a welcome shortening of the syllabus..........

seriously school ki yaad aa gayi........even schools are now student friendly.!

I kinda agree with u on most of the points.
Like just making sure of certain percentage of attendance isn't enuff if u cant get good teachers to teach you during those lectures that u have to attend.

I think there should be choices in exams cuz if there arent then ur percentage will drop and outside campus that will be a bit of trbl...so if choice is removed, they'd better start the grading system...

Reduction in syllabus is not as such an option. But what they cud do is to do away with the redundant things and subsitute with more relevant topics.

And abt the timings of the college, I kinda liked it when our lectures used to start at 8:15 and i even protested in front of the princi against the change in timings to 9...but thats a personal preference as that used to leave me a lot of time in the evenings...

I think making 80% attendance mandatory is the quickest and most convenient heuristic that they could have implemented to guarantee class participation and increase the actual time people spent in college. I agree it's would be much better make the students actually WANT to come to class but I guess it's a first step.

Starting classes at 8 am is, in my opinion, a very good idea but of course as Shantanu said, to each his own.

Eliminating choices in exams is, in my opinion, a very good thing to do as well. This will force students to learn all parts of the curriculum equally well and also prepare the ones that want to study abroad for the way tests are done here. I don't think it is fair to complain just because students will now have to put in more efforts to study for the exams.

I am not sure a "reduction" in syllabus is actually what's needed. A complete overhaul of the curriculum - weeding out all that ancient material and adding some new topics would be more like it, as others pointed out as well.

These might be first steps but I am actually glad that SOME steps are being taken at all.

Of course, it's all very well for me to give opinions when I won't be affected by these steps, but that's just me ... I have an opinion on everything Smile

I feel that no choice in exams should only b implemented in a numerical or an application based paper n not at all in theory mugging up paper

|| 80 pc attendance mandatory ||
80% attedance is a good thing .. but i dont get one thing .. this is sumthing which the students will do by themselves if the quality of teaching goes up .. since most of our teachers are reading than teaching this point is still bound to air in dubiousness ... of effectiveness

|| College starts at 8 in the morning ||
starting college at 8 00 .. hmmm .. i cant say ... i am a lazzy ass .. so cant say much .. but definitely good as shantz said .. leaves lots of time in the evening ..

|| sessionals to end in 3 days flat, finals in 6 ||
just one word .... awesome ... totally personal .. i love to get over the days of gettin pressurised n stuff...

|| no choice in sessionals/final exams ||
will definitley lead to perfection .. n need to understand .. as it was common to hear frm self acclaimed " FUNDe KINGS " in pec .. yaar numericals hote zaada to hum bhi 100 score karte .. and no room fer ny of this stuff ...

|| All this but no reduction in syllabus ||

Damned me, i liked just one thing of the change(projects) and no one talks bout it.

The college hours could have been easily extended by an hour in the evening as most of us attend gym, c++ in the morning.....

Secondly only few of our teachers, frankly speakling, our worth listening to but now, we bhefta bear 'em all

that was what i meant ta say.

As fer the choice there's just one opinion from my side.... give us a choice or the grading system..... please.

Is anyone listening? higer up there ?

@ Smitz

Waise I found all our teachers good this time. True, last year was a bit of a disappointment but is baar toh all our teachers are teaching well, yaar.

And you missed out on a few changes.
1. We'll also have 2 quizes. one surprise quiz whose marks get added to our sessionals and another one of which we'd be notified in advance.

2. Also, the teacher who teaches us will set the paper so no ques of any ques in the exam being out of course.

3. We'll be shown our sem answer booklets so that makes the whole examination system pretty transparent,

4. We'd be given our user ids on pec.ac.in and the director would read all the mails from any such address.

hmmmm...... Can't think of more of them as of now.

Quite good moves all of these...
we have to wait and see if they get implemented or not but atleast the direction of thinking is right...

now there are bright hopes for the technical excellence of our college.
finally we will get to learn what we want and not end up copying assignments.
cheers to all fellow friends.
research ideas can be posted up by the seniors

I think all the proposed changes are a good idea, provided they are implemented efficiently. The past record shows that big plans have often been made without being executed successfully. Hopefully things shuld be better this time..
